New Hope-Solebury High School
New Hope-Soleboro School District 11 in Philadelphia, Pa., ranks in the Top 5% of high schools nationwide. In addition, students have the opportunity to take courses and earn college credit while still in high school. This allows them to graduate early and enter into postsecondary education programs immediately upon graduation.
The AP® participation rate at NHS is 98%, compared to the national average of 90%. At NHS, there are five AP® courses offered each academic year. These include English Language & Composition, English Literature & Composition, Calculus AB/BC, Physics B, and United States History.
Students can choose up to four AP® courses per semester. They must complete three credits of rigorous math and science classes and one credit of history and language arts class. All AP® courses require prerequisites.
AP® exams are administered during the spring of the student’s junior year. Each exam consists of multiple choice questions and free response items. A score of 3 or higher is required to pass.

North Philadelphia starts many students off on the wrong foot. But Girls High School is home to some of the city’s most successful students — and it’s helping them succeed.
For 16 years, Girls High School has been teaching students lessons about life, work and school. College classes are taught completely online. Parents never see each other because there aren’t enough classrooms to meet demand—there’s just one class for every eight girls in grades seven to 12.
And the school doesn’t take attendance –– teachers know exactly how much homework each student gets done.
This model works well for the students who attend Girls High. They graduate at a high rate, and almost everyone goes on to college. Many end up starting businesses.
But what about the rest of the kids? What happens to those students who don’t want to go to college? Who don’t even finish high school?
The answer lies in the SAT scores. In fact, Girls High’s test scores are better than the average public schools in Philadelphia.
