Bloomington Charitable Outreach Programs

The Bloomington Convention & Visitors Bureau works closely with several organizations within the greater Bloomington area. Some of those organizations are focused on providing support to youth, veterans, seniors, families and children. Other nonprofits focus on helping people with special needs, improving access to health care and promoting healthy lifestyles.

We encourage all of our visiting group leaders to consider working on some type of project during their visit. Our goal is to help grow the local nonprofit sector. By doing so, we hope to improve the quality of life for everyone living here in Bloomington.

Community Foundation-Bloomington

Monroe County High School students are being recognized for their academic achievements as semifinalists for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program. This program provides financial assistance to deserving local high school graduates who plan to pursue postsecondary education. Students must demonstrate outstanding scholastic achievement and show leadership qualities and commitment to making the world a better place.

The students were chosen based on their overall GPA, ACT/SAT scores, extracurricular activities, leadership skills, and community involvement. They are among 10 Monroe County residents who will compete against each other for one finalist position. Finalists will receive $5,000 scholarships.

Semifinals will take place during the annual report to the community event on November 15th at 7 p.m., in the auditorium of the Monroe County Courthouse. The award ceremony will follow immediately afterward.

A total of 30 applicants received applications for the 2018 scholarships. The deadline to apply was October 31st.

City of Bloomington Volunteer Network

The City of Bloomington Volunteer Service Network invites you to participate in the annual Holiday Gift Drive. This event gives residents the opportunity to donate gifts to local agencies and organizations that provide assistance to those less fortunate during the holiday season. Please consider donating gently used toys, clothing, books, household items, furniture and appliances. Items are accepted throughout December and into January. You may drop off donations at one of our three locations or call 812-339-3356 to make arrangements for pick up. Donations must be dropped off no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 10. Wheeler Misson Center For Men

We offer guys who are homeless or in difficult circumstances a place of temporary emergency shelter. Case management, which includes referrals to onsite and offshore social service agencies, as well as breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as showers and clothing, chapel services, and clothing are all given. Medical, dental, podiatric and eye services are also available.

New Hope for Families

Our mission is to provide emergency shelter for up to twelve homeless people at a given moment, while our dedicated staff helps these individuals get back on their feet. New Hope is the sole emergency homeless service provider for Monroe County. Our new, licensed center offers small group day cares for up to 48 kids from birth to age 5. You've come to Graham's Foundation because you or someone you care about is dealing with the challenges of a preterm delivery. This wild ride is nothing new to me. My sons Graham and Reece were born 15 weeks early on Thanksgiving Day, 2006. Unfortunately, Graham passed away at 45 days old, and our daughter was hospitalized for four months before we could bring her home. As any parent of a preemie can attest, bringing your baby home presents a whole new set of challenges, and only time will tell what those challenges are.

This is why I started Graham's Foundation: to equip parents of premature infants with knowledge and resources so they can face the challenges of raising a premature child with strength and optimism. Graham's Foundation strives for a society in which no parent must deal with premature birth alone.
